Going into this film knowing it had a very small budget, but hey most Zombie films do...... however this movie was not a big disappointment. In fact it was pretty entertaining, and for a super low budget film, what we see on screen is commendable, although rough in any sense it was still quite good. Dance of the Dead, is a low budget production from director Gregg Bishop and first time feature writer Joe Ballarini, Undoubtedly hammy but, well crafted and heart-felt all the same, Dance of the Dead is a fine and fitting spoof of the zombie comedy movie genre.Like its predessors Shawn of the Dead or Return of the Living Dead? Its cheese filled to the hilt. there is no nudity which I was looking forward to but didnt happen, This is a teen movie and is filled with energetic young actors, all unknowns but atlest they put forth the effort to make a good production and it shows thru-out the film.
The idea : It's prom night, and the local kids are looking for dates and praying they'll get lucky by the end of the night. Meanwhile, something is brewing up at the local cemetery. (dead people?) Now It will be up to a group of local teens (our geeky heros of the movie) to save the day and keep the local high school from becoming a teenage Zombie all you can eat buffet. Lets start with Jimmy whose girlfriend, Lindsey, breaks up with him. Jimmy's friends, who are the Sci-Fi Club, goes to a graveyard, and suddenly gets chased by Zombies. They end up incarcerated in a funeral home with Lindsey. They then meet up with Jimmy, a band from school whose music attracts the Zombies like catnip , They then go to the prom and try to stop the zombies and it palays into twon/school v/s zombies..
First of all... it is by no means a new idea to put zombies in a comedy format, its been done and redone. The acting in this film is not great but is pretty good, the zombies were OK (although I did'nt get why some jump from their graves and run around while others walk slowly), the gore FX were pretty cheesy (but I guess that was intent), the plot was cliche'd and the movie is filled with one-liners. The movie is basically about, Sci-Fi geeks killing zombies and the main geek dose'nt really look like a stero-typical geek does a pretty decent job at acting. Nice prom night dresses all get splattered in blood, Zombies being hypnotized by a punk rock band or its music was a little weird, the characters aren't very memorable, due to the script formula and the comedy isn't really fast enough, and the horror element fails to evoke any kind of reaction whatsoever from most viewers, atlest this one. The movie drags along then picks up, then drags along and picks up but overall I give this one...............
