Though it stands as one of the better horror remakes to come along in recent memory, 2009's My Bloody Valentine In a packed theatre in 3D, the film is a true thrill ride, a communal experience of shared screams and relieved laughter. If you like a bloody laugh and you relish the idea of body parts hurtling at you and threatening to shower your popcorn with blood, this might be just the film for you.

The original 1981 film My Bloody Valentine was a Canadian schlock-horror gore-fest Ten years ago, the small mining town of Harmony  Pennsylvania suffered a collective tragedy (Harry Warden, the sole survivor of a mining accident, awoke from a coma on Valentine's Day, and went on a killing spree before being killed himself). Now the miner who caused the initial accident, Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), returns to town. His true love, Sarah (Jaime King), has married his best friend, town sheriff Axel Palmer (Kerr Smith). This is all very fraught and potentially traumatic, in a soapy kind of way, but somewhat overshadowed by the fact that someone has revived Harry Warden's M.O., and is busily chopping up half the towns population

Now 10 yeras later Harmony again finds itself under attack this Valentine's Day, by a badass monster in a black miner's suit, complete with gas mask, so as to be totally camouflaged. Identity hidden, the gas mask enabling him to add heavy breathing to his armoury of menace. His weapon of choice is the pickaxe, which has two pointy ends. His signature is the ripped out heart, usually served up cold in a heart shaped box that once held Valentine's Day chocolates
