This movie is okay, it isn’t a great film or masterpiece, it's not grounbreaking work and it is pretty cliché for the most part, but it was still a pretty decent watch. I am a big fan of Hillbilly horror and have enjoyed horror hillbilly stuff like "The Hills Have Eyes" and "Wrong Turn" and this backwoods cannibal inbred horror film falls into the same catagory.
The plot of this cinematic adventure as I said is not ground breaking, but pretty decent at-the-lest it revolves around four students driving across the country researching Middle America or something to that effect. They talk about some project assignment's like covered bridges and some other boring stuff at the beginning of the film but I didn’t pay too much attention or care what they were talking about. I was ready to get into the girls and action. (thats just me). Anyway as most horror films go, there has to be atlest one male prickhead who is the ringleader of the group, who basically rules over the rest of the supporting cast of characters. There is the other typical female lead that is a “let’s stick to the game plan” type of girl and is constantly being “outvoted” by the rest of the followers. Rounding out the cliché roles is the sexual big breasted slutty type willing to go along with anything prickheaded ringleader guy has to say and the mandatory appeasing male role who calms the strait laced one when things get “out of hand.”
So now we have the recycled and rehashed characters from at least a few hundred other horror films in this one, we can proceed with the story. As the four students are driving they almost hit what they think is a child in the middle of the road scraping up road kill. Obviously all four have to get out of the car and investigate (and why wouldn’t they?), Suddenly we have cliché horror situation number 19, which is the always improbable flat tire.
Keeping the trend of familiar horror situations, next they end up at a gas station where a blind hillbilly warns the students of the “Legend” and they should “go back the way they came.” Oh, and the conversation between the hillbilly and the students is played out in an “I’m a crazy old coot who loves the bible but is very misunderstood by everyone.” Obviously like every other movie the students think he is nuts and the ringleader prickhead pokes fun causing a scene. Wanting to learn more about the “Legend” they're ringleader forces his friends to go into town to investigate instead of finding the highway to leave the area.
Once they arrive to the tiny hick town of Shillo they learn of the legend called “Albino Farm” and try to get information from all the creepy and deformed citizens of the town. There are repeated omens throughout the hicks town to visit and the genius prickhead decides the four should split up and search the town with even more detail. The douche and slut team up and the square and appeaser head off together as well. Then after meeting a creepy little deaf kid and some lunatic teens the slut and prick hitch a ride to the “Albino Farm” leaving their friends in town. The Albino Farm is a place where inbred freaks live their life killing out-of-towners and…well…eat them too. There is stalking, catching , torturing and of course the escaping of the four students following along with the handbook of horror clichés, they got em all covered in this one ladies and gentlemen!
The makeup and special effects are actually really good and the mutated hick killers look pretty creepy and original. I kind of feel like the people who made this movie were more interested in making some cool looking freaks than making an actual good movie. This is becoming some sort of trend latley for some odd reason, "lets put 90% of our movie's budget into the "effects".
This movie plays out like a shit load of other movies I have seen such as “Wrong Turn, The Hills Have Eyes” and a laundry list of other similar genre films so there is nothing original at all. The acting is quite good at times, but that is to be expected with a low budget film like this. There is one big name in the film however and that is Chris Jericho the wrestler from WWE fame. Jericho plays a weird redheaded guy who initially takes the students to Albino Farm, unfortunatly, his role isn’t that terribly important however.
Also the other really cool thing about this movie was actually the opening credits and soundtrack. I know it sounds odd, but the font and look of the opening credits kicked ass and the soundtrack was all metal and had a creepy vibe to it that I liked quite a bit. Lastly there was a pretty decent twist by the end of the movie yet I still can’t figure out why the remaining lead character's acted the way they did when the twist was revealed. So, like I said previously…this movie was alright, nothing spectacular but solid. On the other hand, if you want to see a great backwoods cannibal inbred horror film…”Wrong Turn” is by far the superior film. This movie was okay though.
